Harmony of Opposites I paint every work through pure improvisation. Before starting, I never make plans. For me, art is not about expressing personal emotion or borrowing external subjects. It is a process that digs into the root of cosmos through the deep inner unconscious and intuition, and explicating this flow onto the physical surface of the canvas. Influenced by physicist David Bohm's theory of the Implicate Order, I believe that time and space, matter, and consciousness, are not separate but deeply enfolded into one another — like a hologram in which every fragment contains the whole. The cells, fragments, circular forms, or small pieces that populate my surfaces are not random. The movement of the microscopic particles represents matter that already possesses macroscopic energy in its entirety. The imagery of them deconstructing and combining with one another may seem like an echo of chaos. However, this is a process through which fragmented existence find their unified form by complementing each other. I call this the ‘Harmony of Opposites’. Ultimately, all beings come to realize the truth that everything is connected by a single order. The world regards my work as a perspective of rupture and the spurt of strong energy, but this is closer to a physical and philosophical practice that expresses the implicate order hidden among all things. Beyond fragmented reality, I hope to evoke the living wholeness that breathes everywhere. I wish for my works to resonate with the softest hidden harmony within you. 상극의 조화 나의 작업은 '본래의 나 자신'과 '외부가 요구하는 가치'들 사이의 충돌에서 시작된다. 나는 이를 상반되는 요소로 보며, 개인과 타인 혹은 사회, 인간과 자연, 유기적인 것과 기계적인 것, 미시와 거시 등의 개념으로 확장한다. 나에게 예술이란 개인의 감정이나 외부의 대상을 재현하는 것이 아니라, 상극의 해체와 조합을 통해 존재가 지향하는 조화로움이라는 본질을 탐구하는 것이다. 작업을 하기 전, 3~5분가량 깊고 짧은 명상을 한다. 우주의 소행성의 충돌, 별의 탄생과 소멸을 지속적으로 상상해 본다. 이후 역동적인 음악이 나를 감싸며, 작업은 즉흥적으로 시작된다. 매 순간마다 순수한 직관력이 따르며, 이러한 즉흥적 태도는 나의 무의식과 본질을 건드리는 가장 중요한 요소 중 하나 이다. 특히 반대되는 것들은 검은색과 흰색, 보색의 대비, 붓질의 속도감과 물감의 두께의 차이 등으로 나타난다. 또한 모든 작품에는 항상 중심이 있는데, 이는 불협화음을 넘어 모든 존재가 추구하는 조화로움으로 가려는 노력을 표현한 것이다. 전체적으로 내 작업은 질서와 붕괴로 이루어진 추상미술의 형태를 띄고 있으며, 회화, 드로잉, 영상 작품 등으로 반경을 넓히고 있다.
